Public Holidays of South AfricaSouth Africa's colourful past is celebrated during various public holidays. Human rights day (21 March), Freedom day (27 April), Youth day (16 June), National Women's day (9 August), Heritage day (24 September) and the Day of reconciliation (16 Desember) have special meaning to the people of South Africa and are celebrated each year on the same day. South Africans welcome the new year during New year's day (1 January). Workers day (1 May) provides a break from normal work activities to celebrate the contributions of the working class in South Africa. Most South Africans are Christians. This fact is recognised by celebrating public holidays during Christmas (Christmas Day, 25 December and Day of Goodwill, 26 December) and Easter (Good Friday and Family Day). Public Holidays for 2009
